Ain’t Nothing Gonna Steal My Joy

Are you a music lover? There’s nothing like a catchy tune to get you movin’ and groovin’.

Where words fail, music speaks. – Hans Christian Andersen

Incredibly, music has the ability to reach one’s heart and soul. It transcends languages.

When adding lyrics, music takes on an entirely different context. Now, there’s an added level of story. When I first heard the lyrics to the song below, I began to smile. One particular line stood out to me:

There ain’t nothing, there ain’t nothing gonna steal my joy

Studying the book of Philippians, Paul has much to write about joy and remaining content in all circumstances (Philippians 4:11-12). So what exactly is this joy that Paul’s talking about? I love John Piper’s personal definition:

Christian joy is a good feeling in the soul, produced by the Holy Spirit, as he causes us to see the beauty of Christ in the word and in the world.

Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Jesus explains to His disciples that a day will come when no one call steal their joy (John 16:22).

Our souls crave joy. Peace and joy sustain us when are circumstances are rocky. Only the Holy Spirit can do that. Whatever is going on today, you can trust that He is with you. Jesus cares and hears you. My hope is that despite circumstances, this Zach Williams song will make you smile.
